We are passionate about helping with Tennessee's war on drug and alcohol addiction, and the co-occuring disorders of drug abuse and mental health. We desire to help those who already struggle with addiction, but we also want to help prevent addictive behavior by offering Acudetox to those who struggle with the issues listed above. Therefore, we offer comprehensive treatment, from a biblical perspective, and refer those who need assistance beyond our scope of practice. We have a great working relationship with local physicians and mental health facilities.

Acudetox Protocol & Benefits

​

• Acudetox involves the gentle placement of five small sterilized, disposable stainless steel needles to specific sites on each ear (Sympathetic Nervous System point, Shen Men (Pineal Gland) point, Kidney point, Liver point, & Lung point).

• The recipient sits quietly alone, or in a group setting for 30 – 45 minutes (45 is suggested).

• Treatment is offered frequently, and can be tolerated and beneficial on a daily basis, or numerous times a day (particularly for those withdrawing from substance abuse) if needed, and available. All that to say that Acudetox is safe. 

• The treatment is a non-verbal process with minimal interaction between client and provider.

• Acudetox is simple, flexible, and inexpensive. It is easily integrated into treatment settings.

• A balancing in the energy system and vital organs listed occur almost immediately so that the patient/client is able to receive the benefits of the treatment protocol.

• Very anxious patients often fall asleep during acupuncture as it takes them out of the sympathic nervous system (fight or flight), into the para-sympathetic system (rest and digest).

• Tired, apathetic patients report an increased sense of vitality during, and immediately after treatment.

• Most people experience a relaxing and centering feeling.

• Acudetox treatments can be judged by how much better patients are prepared for, and open to counseling, group therapy, social interaction, and other life challenges.

What will I experience in an Acudetox session?

​

Acudetox is performed in the spa at The WAYStation. It is a comfortable room with dimmed lighting, gentle music, and aromatherapy. You will be seated in a comfortable recliner. You will be given an alcohol prep to clean the inner and outer ears. Then, 5 sterile single-use needles, no thicker than two strands of hair, are carefully placed in 5 specific points of each ear. You will then sit or lay back and quietly enjoy your session for 45 minutes. You can scheduled enough time to receive prayer following your session as well.

In my clinical participation with Acudetox, clients experienced the following after one treatment:

​

• Warmth and a feeling of energy flow or electricity to a weakened, damaged, or sick part of their body

• Instant release of pain where pain was presented upon arrival

• Instant drowsiness upon the placement of the first needle followed by deep, restful nap; and increased energy upon rising to leave

• Greatly improved sleep at night

• Some clients reported detoxification symptoms for 2-3 days.

• Improved mood, emotional release, and/or resolution of emotional struggles

• Decreased cravings

• Greater sense of awareness of bodily functions

• Increased spiritual awareness

Possible Side Effects:

​

• Acudetox, over time, has been found to be very safe with few experienced complications, up to as many as three sessions per day in cases of in-patient detoxification.

• Symptoms of detoxification can occur since Acudetox addresses the three major organs of detoxification (kidneys, liver, and lungs).

• Rare cases of headache have been reported during the procedure, but are generally alleviated by removing or loosening the sympathetic point.

• A small hematoma, however rare, may occur when needles are removed. Cotton balls can be placed in the ear following needle removal just in case, and especially upon standing and movement. This is the exception and not the rule.

• Needle shock, which is rare. Practitioners have found that patients who eat a high carb meal prior to treatment may experience needle shock. Adversely, patients who have a light meal, or have at least something on their stomach at some point prior to treatment helps to avoid dizziness and needle shock. When a patient experiences needle shock, they may feel imbalance, dizziness, turn pale, or feel nauseas. They may even faint for a few seconds. Because they are resting comfortably in a well supportive chair, there is no risk of falling. The ADS will simply remove the needles, check their vitals, and once conscious, raise their feet above the level of the head and keep them warm.  Symptoms resolve quickly and the patient may exhibit relaxed behavior as if a full treatment occurred. We suggest a light meal before each session. High carb meals are discouraged.

• Infection is rare with proper infection control procedures practiced at The WAYStation. In case of infection, the needle site should rest until it has completely healed. The ADS will encourage the patient to apply first aid, and will refer them to a medical professional if infection worsens.
