Contraindications to Bodywork
Please consider the following contraindications for various forms of bodywork before you book an appointment. If you have any questions before booking, please contact me for more information or to answer any questions you may have about your safety.

Massage Therapy

ABSOLUTE CONTRAINDICATIONS: (Where massage therapy is not beneficial and can be harmful) Pregnancy in the first trimester, shock, current cancer radiation treatment or chemotherapy that is current or within the last 6 months (need a doctor's release), recent stroke or heart attack (need a doctor's release), severe headache, internal pain, recent major surgeries (needs a doctor's release), infectious or contagious disease, diarrhea & fever - flu symptoms, kidney disease, vomiting, severe pain, recent diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, infectious skin diseases or conditions, acute conditions that require medical attention (see your doctor first). Clients with severe hemophilia are contraindicated for massage due to increased circulation and clotting issues. Anyone who has received a COVID injection or booster within the last month should wait until spike proteins are no longer shedding or circulating in the body systems. Clients are not or may not be safe receiving massage therapy until the foregoing conditions/symptoms are resolved.

RELATIVE CONTRAINDICATIONS (Where massage therapy treatment can be modified according to the current condition): Clients who are pregnant, who bruise easily, who are diabetic (as massage therapy can lower blood sugar), who have low blood pressure or are on blood pressure medication (as MT is known to lower blood pressure). We can make accommodations for those who have any of the foregoing relative contraindications such as side-lying massage for those who are pregnant, taking diabetes medicines several hours before receiving massage instead of right before your appointment, monitoring blood pressure before, during if necessary, and after receiving massage to ensure you're stable on your feet, hydrate if necessary, etc. to get blood pressure as close to normal before leaving as possible.

Raindrop Technique

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Clients who are pregnant or nursing are advised against receiving Raindrop. Also, if a client has experienced a reaction or has an allergy to any one or more of the following oils - you should exclude those oils or refrain from receiving Raindrop: Oregano, Thyme, Basil, Wintergreen, Marjoram, Cypress, Valor, or Peppermint.

Acudetox

There are no contraindications for Acudetox (ear acupuncture). It is, however, good to not eat a high carb meal shortly before a session as acupuncturists have observed needle shock more often after a high carb meal. Needle shock is where a patient will lose consciousness for a few seconds immediately following needle insertion. Otherwise, Acudetox is harmless, and has been found to be very relaxing and helpful.

X'Tract

CONTRAINDICATIONS: X'tract is contraindicated for those receiving radiation for chemotherapy, who have blood clots or open cuts or wounds, active burns or rashes, or are pregnant or nursing. Also, let us know if you have an allergy or have had a reaction to grapefruit, orange, cypress, tarragon, ginger, peppermint, fennel, lemongrass, anise, or patchouli oils, as we use them to facilitate lymphatic drainage and can perform the session without oils. Individuals with the foregoing symptoms/conditions should not receive X'Tract until these issues are completely resolved.

Reflexology

NOTE: Special care is taken when performing reflexology on clients who are pregnant, so as not to stimulate uterine contractions or any other disturbances of the reproductive system. Due to the risks of miscarriage in the first trimester, we advise against reflexology in the first trimester of pregnancy.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: foot injuries, first trimester of pregnancy, blood clotting issues or a recent diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, or open wounds. Individuals with these symptoms/conditions should not receive reflexology until the foregoing issues are completely resolved.

Craniosacral Therapy

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Recent concussion, Cerebral swelling, Structural defects in the cerebellum such as Arnold-Chiari malformation, Brain aneurysm, Traumatic brain injury, Blood clots, Any disorder that causes instability of cerebral fluid pressure, flow or build-up. Children under the age of 9 should not receive Craniosacral work as their occipital bones have not fully formed.
